I made a tiger illustration that I never used on another project, and when I found out 2022 will be the Chinese year of the tiger I decided to make this. The tiger of the Chinese zodiac is associated with power and boldness. So I decided to fill this with symbols representing what I want to bring into the new year.

Forget-me-not flowers represent remembrance (pretty obvious one there). I also added hearts for love and fire for passion. The raised fist is currently most associated with the Black Power movement. Historically it has been a widely used symbol of resistance against oppression. And finally, the circles are symbolic of the cyclical nature of life. Even though we feel time pressing us forward, the circle represents eternity and wholeness. I hope you all have a safe, happy, and healthy new year!

The last Neon Genesis Evangelion movie premiered in the US last week, and I wanted to create some art based on it. It’s crazy how I started watching the original show when I was about the same age as the main character (15). But the story’s themes of climate impact, hope, adolescence, all the wonderful fan essays analyzing the story through Freud and Kierkegaard’s work, and of course…the memes have had a had a wonderful and thoughtful impact on me. Eva may be over, but it will always have a special place in my heart! #problematicfav
